Disposable Skin Staple Remover, Sterilized, for Skin Wound Suture The skin staple remover is a specialized tool used to remove surgical staples. Begin at one end of the healed incision. Clean the wound using saline or an antiseptic to remove any debris or dried matter. Slide the lower part of the staple remover under the center of the staple. Squeeze the handles fully to close, which bends the staple and allows the ends to be pulled out of the incision. Remove the staple by releasing the pressure on the handles. After removal, place the staple into a disposable sharps container. Remove the staple in the same direction it was inserted to minimize skin trauma. You may feel a slight pinch, sting, or pulling sensation, which is normal. Continue using the staple remover to remove all remaining staples. Clean the area again with an antiseptic after staple removal. Apply a dry dressing or bandage if necessary.
